The Department of Art at CSULA is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design—the highest level of professional art recognition in the nation.  The CSULA faculty are excellent teachers and nationally famous in their specializations, and the CSULA graduates have important careers in art and design.  CSULA has transfer agreements with all the local colleges in the Los Angeles area.  Courses and programs are offered daytime, evenings, and weekends to serve working students. 

CSULA graduates are successful professionals in major industries and education. Students in fashion design, fashion merchandising, and textiles are given the opportunity to "change the world" by becoming artists or designers! Their course of study includes classes in computers, marketing and business management.

CSULA offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in the areas of graphic design, photography design, digital media, studio painting, sculpture, ceramics, animation, art history, fashion and textile design, merchandising, art education, and California teaching credentials.  Students have unique opportunities to learn and to work with active professional faculty on major research projects in art and design.

The Current California State University, Los Angeles Program:
BA in Art with an option in Fashion/Textiles, and a specialization in Fashion Design, Fashion Merchandising, and Textiles.

New Textile Production and Management Certificate

A new certificate program is being offered at California State University, Los Angeles.  Through a grant in California State, Los Angeles, Extended Education, a new curriculum for a Textile Production and Management Certificate has been developed. The first courses are being offered beginning in January 2005. This certificate provides for training beyond the baccalaureate level for technical and management personnel.

There Are Two Major Goals of the Program:

  1. To fill the expanding gap in the need for training resources beyond the baccalaureate level and the availability of programs designed for technical and management personnel.
  2. To establish a curriculum model that is reflective of the impact that the fashion and textile industry has in the Los Angeles region.

Internships Available:

Four CSULA students interned at Wuxi Guangming Garment Company, Inc., in China, in September 2002, for one month.  Wuxi GuangMing Garment Company manufactures for Polo, Tommy Hilfiger, Courege, Van Heusen, Dior, and Levi/Dockers.

  • Students received experience in apparel design and production, attended the Nanjing Fall Fashion Fair, toured textile mills, toured the Suzhou Silk Museum, and explored a variety of Chinese cultural sites in Wuxi, Suzhou, Nanjing, and Shanghai.
  • Continuing student internships are available for CSULA students in China, with a variety of textile/apparel production companies.
  • CSULA continues to explore new opportunities for student internships in China.
