IFAI (Industrial Fabrics Association International) and FabricLink wish to congratulate all the International Achievement Award winners for 2006!  The awards, presented by IFAI at its annual Conference and Expo, recognize accomplishments in innovative design, technology, and application of specialty fabrics.  The 59th annual competition received 348 entries from companies in 13 countries.  Entries in 27 categories were judged by a diverse panel of industry experts, editors, architects, educators, and design professionals who were selected for their knowledge of the particular category of competition. Judging was based on complexity, design, workmanship, uniqueness and function. 

The competition invites companies throughout the world to submit entries for this prestigious acclamation of superiority in the development, manufacture, and use of specialty fabrics in various classifications.  Entries for the 2007 International Achievement Awards will be accepted through July 15, 2007.  IFAI encourages project submissions of all sizes and type. The goal of the International Achievement Awards is to further awareness of the specialty fabrics used in hundreds of products. IFAI encourages project submissions of all sizes and type. ® International Achievement Awards 2006

This free-standing canopy , designed by West Japan Railway / JR-West Japan Consultants, provides a gateway to the town of Takatori, Japan.  Thie Takatori Station is part of a broad renovation and post-earthquake reconstruction plan for the town of Takatori and the Kansai region.  About 12 years ago, this area was ht by major earthquake that claimed more than 6,000 lives in the region.  The station's canopy is made from Sheerfill® II membrane fabric, developed by Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics Corp

® International Achievement Awards 2006

This project, designed by Brilliant Stages Ltd., with graphics by Pyramid & Media Co., pushes the boundaries for portable fast-erection structures as a way to enhance onstage performances.  The project utilized Soltis® Mesh from Ferari Textiles Corp., and black/silver fabric from Julius Heywinkel GmbH.  The various fabrics that were selected based on the needed flexibility for the project, and gave a visually pleasing display and backdrop to complement the entertainers onstage.

® International Achievement Awards 2006

Helsinki, Finland, was the location of this tented building that  was the venue for the 10th annual world championship of the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) that took place in August 2005.  Several Roder tents provided 3,000 square meters of tent floor space, arranged in a large quadrant, and serving as the hospitality area.  The fabric used for the tents was from Ferrari Textiles Corp.

® International Achievement Awards 2006

EDP Textiles provided six textile designs on cotton duck, 125 yards of solid color, 46 yards of family photos printed on Georg+Otto Friedrich satin, and Glen Raven inkjet polyester for a 150-foot awning, for an Illinois wedding/reception.  The digitally printed color coordinated fabric was used for tablecloths, upholstery, drapery, pillows, cushions, three cabana tents, neck ties for 75 busboys, framed photo displays and 15 linen outfits for reception hostesses.

® International Achievement Awards 2006

This futuristic trade show booth for Seagate provides the perfect environment to highlight the technological innovation of the company's high profile electronic products.  Designed by Exhibit Works and Moss Inc., the 40-by-60 foot exhibit is dominated by three large fabric pods, made of polymuslin by Dazian Fabrics LLC and Soft Knit by Fisher Textiles Inc.  These cylindrical pods create three large 360-degree theatres within the booth space.  Films of the Seagate story, along with videos of  world-renowned film producers using Seagate products, are projected through fish-eye lenses within each pod theatre.

® International Achievement Awards 2006

Since hurricanes are a way of life in the Southeast USA, Clear View Products Inc., a division of Wave Guide Technologies, developed this protective system for residential/commercial structures.  The system uses translucent Clearlarâ„¢ fabric from Value Vinyls, Inc., which allows diffused light to come through, as well as built-in mildew/mold protection and UV-resistance.  The protective window coverings offer a strong and easy-to-install mounting system.  The system has received certification from the National Accreditation and Management Institute.

® International Achievement Awards 2006

Designed to be worn as a base layer under body armor, this dry electrode baseline system, designed by Foster-Miller, Inc., monitors heart rate, respiration rate, body posture, activity level, and skin temperature, which is then transmitted wirelessly to a remote display.  The shirt is made from Malden Mills Industries' Polartec® fabric, enhanced with Body Mappingâ„¢  by Malden Mills, in a seamless single-layer "performance zones" knitted construction, and also utilizes a stainless steel nylon ECG electrode fabric, woven by Offray Specialty Narrow Fabrics.  Contained within the seamless construction, the washable shirt contains a small, detachable electronics module.  The comfortable, "performance zoned", Body Mapping garment construction provides for increased mobility, less bulk, cushioning and chafing protection, and moisture management qualities.

® International Achievement Awards 2006

Lavish indulgences were evident in this extravagant yacht project by Canvas Designers Inc., which used Subrella® fabric by Glen Raven custom Fabrics LLC, in a total redesign of the pleasure boat.  Specific areas receiving the facelift included the living area and master stateroom with new bedding, pillows, sun pads, cushions, ottomans, and recovered sofas.  Roman shades, new headliners, and wall coverings were also added to the master stateroom and two VIP captain's quarters.

Stamford Tent & Party Rental, Stamford, CT, USA
® International Achievement Awards 2006

A tented venue for a private birthday party for 350 guests was the need for this project.  The steel-column tent was attached to a private club building and cantilevered beyond a seawall with cables.  To support the necessary size, Stamford Tent & Party Rental  worked with Rissoli Engineering and Eastern Metal in designed the cantilevered platform that extended eight feet beyond the seawall.  A steel outrigger cable system  extended back to the seawall to support the platform.  The four-point tent was created using Centuryâ„¢ fabric by Anchor Industries.
